Number Coding Decoding - Forward Sequence

Number Coding Decoding: Coding with Forward Sequence

This is the pattern of coding which exhibits the natural correlation of numbers with letter in the alphabetical order. For instance, alphabets A to Z are assigned the numeric codes from 1 to 26 where each letter gets the assignment in the pattern as follow A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, etc.

Forward Sequence

Example 1: If PACE is code as 16-1-3-5, how will you code the following?

(1) ACTED             (2) BAIL           (3) RACE            (4) FRAME               (5) GLAD                (6) GAIN

Solution : In this question , if we assign numbers to these alphabets in the ascending order we get : A = 1, B = 2, C = 3... and so on.

Similarly,

  • (1) ACTED = 1-3-20-5-4
  • (2) BAIL = 2-1-9-12
  • (3) RACE = 18-1-3-5
  • (4) FRAME = 6-18-1-13-5
  • (5) GLAD = 7-12-1-4
  • (6) GAIN = 7-1-9-14
  • Example 2 : If CUP = 40, then KITE = ?

    (a) 10          (b)  20           (c)  30              (d) 45

    Answer : (d)

    Solution : According to the forward sequence of alphabets, C = 3, U = 21 and P = 16. If we add all these numbers we get = 3 + 21+ 16 = 40.

    Similarly, K = 11 , I = 9 , T = 20 and E = 5. If we add these numbers = 11 + 9 + 20 + 5 = 45 (using forward letter positions). Hence the answer is 45.

    Example 3 :   If E = 5 , PEN = 35, PAGE = ?

    (a)  27         (b) 28            (c) 29               (d) 30

    Answer : (c)

    Solution : Clearly, Putting A=1,B=2,C=3,D=4,E=5........soon.

    E= 5

    PEN = 16+5+14 = 35

    PAGE = 16+1+7+5 = 29

    So, the answer is 29.

    Example 4 : If MACHINE is coded as 19-7-9-14-15-20-11, how will you code DANGER ?

    (a) 11-7-20-16-11-24          (b)  13-7-20-9-11-25          (c)  10-7-20-13-11-24              (d)  13-7-20-10-11-25

    Answer : (c)

    Solution : Clearly, Putting A=1,B=2,C=3,D=4,E=5........soon.

    In case of MACHINE ,

    M= 13, add 6 in it, 13+6 = 19

    A=1, add 6 in it, 1+6 = 7

    C=3, add 6 in it, 3+6= 9

    H=8,add 6 in it, 8+6 = 14

    I=9, add 6 in it, 9+6 = 15

    N=14, add 6 in it, 14+6 = 20

    E= 5, add 6 in it, 5 +6 = 11

    Similarly,

    In case of DANGER,

    D= 4, add 6 in it, 4+6 = 10

    A= 1, add 6 in it, 1+6=    7

    N=14, add 6 in it, 14+6 = 20

    G= 7, add 6 in it, 7+6= 13

    E= 5, add 6 in it, 5+6 = 11

    R= 18, add 6 in it, 18+6 = 24

    So, the answer is 10-7-20-13-11-24.

    Example 5 :  In certain code the word DEAL is coded as 4-5-1-12. Following the same rule of coding, What should be the code of the word LADY?

    (a) 12-4-1-25          (b)  12-1-4-25          (c)  10-1-4-25              (d) 12-1-4-22

    Answer : (b)

    Solution : Clearly, Putting A=1,B=2,C=3,D=4,E=5........soon.

    In case of DEAL,

    D= 4

    E= 5

    A= 1

    L= 12

    In case of LADY,

    L= 12

    A= 1

    D= 4

    Y= 25

    So, the answer is 12-1-4-25.

    Example 6:  In certain code the word DEAL is coded as 4-5-1-12. Following the same rule of coding, What should be the code of the word CHAIR?

    (a) 3-8-1-9-18          (b)   3-8-2-9-17         (c)  3-7-1-9-18             (d)  3-8-3-9-18

    Answer : (a)

    Solution : Clearly, Putting A=1,B=2,C=3,D=4,E=5........soon.

    In case of DEAL,

    D= 4

    E= 5

    A= 1

    L= 12

    In case of CHAIR,

    C= 3

    H= 8

    A= 1

    I= 9

    R= 18

    So, the answer is 3-8-1-9-18.
